Power Tek Consulting Services
Power Tek provides consulting services in the areas construction, startup
performance testing, operations and maintenance program assessments
for power generation facilities. We have experience with new and reconditioned
power generation equipment. Our goal is to work with the Contractor
to assure that the project is completed on schedule and to budget projections.
The many facets of a power project from conceptual and design to operations
must be reviewed and optimized to meet or exceed project schedules
without compromising the project goals and profitability.
Served as the Project Director for the NRG Energy Somerset relocation
and reinstallation of a Pratt & Whitney FT-4 Combustion Turbine from
Somerset, Massachusetts to Burlington, Vermont. The project scope included
the evaluation of equipment, disassembly, moving, site preparation, piling,
foundations, reassembly, refurbishment, checkout, commissioning and startup
and turnover of the unit to the operations group. The project was completed
and operational in thirty days from start to finish.
Served as Startup Manager and Consulting Services to Duke/Fluor Daniel
for the Dearborn Simple Cycle Project Phase 1. The project consisted
of simple cycle GE 7 FA Combustion Turbine and auxiliary equipment. The
unit was relocated from the State of Washington to the Dearborn, Michigan
and reassembled. Managed the construction support and startup team for
the reassembly of the unit from the equipment arrival on site through
startup and testing of the unit. First fire of combustion turbine was
completed within ninety days of setting the turbine on the foundation.
Provided startup support and consulting to Duke/Fluor Daniel for the
Ingleside Cogeneration Project in Corpus Christi, Texas. The unit consisted
of two GE Frame 7 FA Combustion Turbines and an ABB Steam Turbine. Reviewed
the schedule and provided input to enhance the time required to complete
the overall project.
Provided operations and maintenance consulting and evaluation of the
TMPA Gibbon’s Creek Electric Generating Station with water quality and
performance degradation on a 480 MW GE turbine with a Combustion Engineering
boiler. In addition, provided a condition assessment of the facility
as part of an effort to determine the value of the asset to the various
owners.
Power Tek personnel provided Startup and Commissioning Support for the
Bayswater Peaking Project in Bayswater, New York. Power Tek coordinated
Pratt & Whitney, Foster Wheeler and Florida Power personnel to
ensure that all unit startup documents and the startup was completed
in accordance with contract requirements for the Bayswater Project.
Served as the Owner Commissioning, Performance, Operations and Maintenance
Interface for the UAMPS Nebo Power Project in Payson, Utah. Power Tek
worked with CH2MHill and Colorado Energy Management to coordinate the
startup and performance areas of the Payson one-on-one General Electric
7EA combined cycle project. The unit was a GE 7EA Gas Turbine a Nooter
Eriksen Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) and a GE Steam Turbine Generator.
Power Tek provided input and support to the Operations and Maintenance
Annual Budget
Power Tek also modeled and reviewed the projected unit performance models
completed by CH2MHill.
Power Tek personnel provided review and comment for the Nebraska Public
Power Sheldon (NPPD) Coal Fired Power Station to conduct a Burner Management
Program Audit of facility conducted by Burns & McDonnell. The program
was conducted to ensure that the facility met the intent of NFPA 85-2004
and the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code –Rules for Construction
of Power Boilers.
Power Tek personnel provided Loss on Ignition (LOI) Study for the Nebraska
Public Power Sheldon (NPPD) Coal Fired Power Station. Reviewed NPPD’s
proposals for reducing LOI at the Sheldon facility and provide input
to any additional items that could be included for reducing LOI for the
facility.
Power Tek personnel provided a FD Fan Inlet Vane Control Drive Replacement
Study for the Nebraska Public Power Sheldon (NPPD) Coal Fired Power Station.
The study was commissioned to assess the compatibility and impact of
the proposed new control drives on the existing control system at the
Sheldon facility and provide input to any changes in tuning parameters
affected by the change in the FD Fan inlet vane control drives. In addition,
the study included a range of acceptable full stoke time for the drives
and listed and review the feed forward gains and other tuning parameters
for the replacement drives.
